Yep. Listening to the iPod. Leaning back in my Adirondack Chair. Cold Coke by my side. Hanging out at the pool. The start of summer.
Well, sort of. Clutched in my hand is my just-delivered copy of Join the Club; Bringing Book Clubs into Middle School Classrooms by Katie Doherty Czerwinski. I have been waiting impatiently for its arrival. Although I teach at the elementary level, I am excited to begin reading it.
I hope to offer books clubs in the fall. I admit it. I have been out of school four days and I have already started planning. I am thinking of incorporating what I learned from Kyleen Beers and Robert E. Probst's Notice and Note: Strategies for Close Reading. I think learning about the signposts will really help students with their book discussions.
